Sunrise Service
Darkness utter darkness a frown on the face of the earth it beckons for your tears but all it hears is mirth perhaps to cover sadness perhaps to cover shame perhaps it’s just that they don’t care who vainly mock His name but wait until that morning when the son will rise again numbered with transgressors nailed between two thieves but He who goes forth weeping will be reaping in the sheaves He who bore seeds for sowing He who healed the lame He who prophets old, foretold of His wonderful mighty name and of that cloudy morning when the Son did rise again You Lord can make me whole again You Lord can give me peace You Lord can be my faithful friend to whom my burdens I release Immanuel my Saviour Yeshua my King, my Lord! the Word from which I take my strength His Word my only sword the brightness almost blinding the warmth shines upon my face He beckons for my heart and then imparts His grace to wipe away my selfishness to wipe away my pain to wipe away what I once was and never be the same praise Jesus Christ this morning the Lamb of God by name praise Jesus Lord of all the earth God’s son did rise again my Lord and my God all doubts and fears away my Lord and my God we wait upon Your day my Lord and my God.. now we wait (this) each early morning for the Son to come again
"Sunrise Service" was written for a sunrise service at the Pavilion on the Ocean Grove boardwalk. The weather forecast spelled "doom" for any chance of sun. Cold rain, gusty easterly winds off the Atlantic, and even sleet were all part of the forecast. So this song speaks of darkness first and a "Son" rise later. With overlapping themes pointing to the second coming, the forecast that Easter was right. This song was right too. The sun will rise again; and the Son will come again too. Chimes, jangly guitars, some tambourine add to the core sound of gsr4gsm.Psalm 126:6 Mark 15:27-28 Sunrise Service © Jersey Scholes Music 1992 lyric/music: George Scholes Robson IV composition and arrangement: George Scholes Robson IV recorded by: God’SquareMile
Abba, Abba
Led by the Spirit of God We become the children of God… Dad I want to thank You for all You’ve done and shown for everything You’ve given for adopting me as Your own for setting me free from all those childhood fears and wiping away all those childlike tears when the fullness of time had come You sent forth Your heavenly Son to redeem us and make us Your own bonded by love we are never alone Abba Abba Father above We are Your children You are our God Daddy I want to thank you for all You’ve done and shown for Your dear Spirit’s guidance and comfort when I’m alone for showing us the way whether a father or a mother to show others the way make them our sisters and our brothers when the fullness of time had come You sent forth Your heavenly Son to redeem us and make us Your own bonded by love we are never alone Abba Abba Father above All things are possible for You are our God Led by the Spirit of God We become the children of God…
"Abba, Abba" was composed for a Father's Day Pavilion Praise Worship Service. It highlights our adoption into the family of Jesus by His heavenly Father. The funky pre-chorus hearkens to Clyde Butterfield and the JB's. Oh pass the peas like we used to do. Or for the faithful congregant.... pass the peace like we used to do.Abba, Abba © Jersey Scholes Music 6/16/95 lyric/music: George Scholes Robson IV composition & arrangement: George Scholes Robson IV recorded by: God’SquareMile Romans 8:14-17, Revelation 21:4, Galatians 4:4-6
Bend Down Your Ear
Lord You are my refuge don’t let me down Save me from my enemies for You are just Rescue me... Bend down Your ear and listen to my plea and Save me... I will praise You Praise you with the music Save me... I will shout and sing Your praises for redeeming me Save me... I will praise You Praise you with the music Save me... I will shout and sing Your praises for redeeming me Be to me a great protecting rock where I am always welcome safe from all attacks for You have issued the order My success in which so many stand amazed is because You are my mighty protector All day long I will praise You and honor You O God for all that You have done for me I will praise You praise You with the music I will shout and sing Your praises for redeeming me I will talk to others all day long about Your justice and Your goodness I will keep on expecting You to help me I’ll praise You more and more and more and more and more.... Rescue me... Bend down Your ear and listen to my plea and Save me... I will praise You Praise you with the music Save me... I will shout and sing Your praises for redeeming me
"Bend Down Your Ear": taken from Psalm 71, it toys with the polyphonic spree of interweaving vocals which G4 loves about middle eastern chants. Smash that modal thang with a surf-punk 60's beat and you want to praise with the music.Bend Down Your Ear © Jersey Scholes Music 2/21/90 lyric/music: George Scholes Robson IV composition and arrangement: George Scholes Robson IV recorded by: God’SquareMile
(Ghoti) Fish Out of Water
Intro Couldn’t be good for a perfect God not good enough at all no matter how hard I try I try I tried 1) Used to lie to get my way Used to lie to get ahead Used to lie to get my pay until I laid it all down Refrain at the footsteps of Jesus at the crown of the cross but since you can’t see trust sometimes you feel lost Chorus Like a !!! fish out of water with nothing to breathe Like a !!! fish out of water flailing and thrashing Like a !!! fish out of water out of your element Like a !!! fish out of water your faith takes a bashing your whole world comes crashing (crashing) while others look so dashing (dashing) (Like a fish out of water) feel so smashing (smashing) Like a fish out of water you need the water of life Like a fish out of water (you) stick with the water of life 3) Used to have language cuts and barbs Cursings and fixtures and cynical carps Now I have nothing from which to defend No double entendres no signals to send 4) Used to think I could be good Used to think I could be right by staying in line do what I should til’ I swam from the surface into the deep light Refrain Chorus
"Ghoti Out of Water: Ghoti is a constructed word used to illustrate irregularities in English spelling. It is a respelling of the word fish: i.e., it is supposed to be pronounced /ˈfɪʃ/. It comprises these phonemes: gh, pronounced /f/ as in tough /tʌf/; o, pronounced /ɪ/ as in women /ˈwɪmɪn/; and ti, pronounced /ʃ/ as in nation /ˈneɪʃən/. Linguists have pointed out that the location of the letters in the constructed word is inconsistent with how those letters would be pronounced in those placements, and that the expected pronunciation in English would be "goaty". No matter. The song is mainly about the life and death struggle between flesh and spirit as put forth by Paul in Romans chapter 7. Roll Away the Stone
The silent tomb, it echoes nothing and lying there in dust of death The Nazarene is stirred by something as He wakes and takes a breath mmm mmm {Shekinah} … The linen clothes, scattered He leaves them (He) unwraps His headcloth, folds it up The Galilean, born in Bethlehem rising from His baptizing cup To roll away the stone {Shekinah, Shekinah glory} To roll away the stone {Shekinah, Messiah glory} Conquered sin and death alone to roll away the stone mmm mmm to roll away the stone mmm mmm Into the dark tomb of despair the sunlight streams down in mercy and makes day what was night Lifting up our sin sick souls from private hells...public sheols The Son of God stands up and rolls a-way the stone of separation opens the way for our salvation and redeeming His lost creation So why do you seek the living among the dead? Why don’t you step outside here and clear your head? Why stumble endlessly now follow Christ instead? Abiding in the Word... Abiding in the Word... To roll away the stone {Shekinah, Shekinah glory} To roll away the stone {the power of Jehovah’s glory} Today the one true light has shone to roll away the stone Roll away the stone! {Shekinah, Shekinah glory} Roll away the stone! {Shekinah, Shekinah glory} Roll away the stone and rise again So Christ will be the glory in our midst… Praise Jesus the resurrected Praise Jesus the resurrected Praise Jesus the resurrected Jesus!
"Roll Away the Stone": Another song constructed for another sunrise service up on the boardwalk pavilion. This time there was plenty of sunlight. In fact, it pierced through the clouds that morning at the most effective dramatic moment of the song's lyric and musical structure, as the listener is led from the silent tomb into the radiant, blinding, Shekinah glory of the risen Messiah. The later repeated mantra from Zechariah 2 lifts the mood even higher foreshadowing that day when Christ will be the glory in our midst!Roll Away the Stone © Jersey Scholes Music 4/7/93 lyric/music: George Scholes Robson IV composition and arrangement: George Scholes Robson IV recorded by: God’SquareMile Luke 24:1-8, Zechariah 2:5, Revelation 21:23
Healing Word
1) Jesus where is Your Word Jesus Jesus I’m waiting for Your Word Jesus There is no desire for me in this burning fire I see Jesus So do not be a terror to me but please whisper a message to me Jesus 2) Your kingdom how do I tell them about it Lord? Your kingdom Your kingdom; when I know this people can’t live without it; Your kingdom Sometimes it looks like the devil is winning when no one around me wants to stop sinning Jesus Wasting time more than we have to afford I humble myself for the day of the Lord Jesus Refrain: Heal me and I will be healed Save me and I will be saved for You are the Giver of Life 3) Messiah in the beginning was the Word Messiah Messiah how do I tell them about You Lord, Messiah Looking all around me I see doubt and fury viciously forsaking Our lives are taken As numbers counted down for information Processed away so we can take a vacation So we can ignore the real reformation Within this spiraling state of the nation No longer talking about sanctification Only concerned with our cable tv stations Treating You God, like a foreign relation Remembered at Christmas with a half-priced carnation No longer recalling a divine incarnation Or that we are called to a gift of salvation To a gift of Salvation to a gift of salvation You’re a Gift of Salvation Refrain: Heal me and I shall be healed Save me and I shall be saved for You… are the Giver of Life Heal me and I shall be healed Save me and I shall be saved and unto You…. I will shout praise Coda: You say to me Where is the Word of the Lord? I say to you here is the Word of the Lord w/ Refrain: Heal me and I shall be healed Save me and I shall be saved It lives in mercy it lives in judgement In saves from judgement but only with truth It works in mystery it works in wonderment It can work a miracle of love in You in You God’s Word in You It lives in mercy it lives in judgement It saves from judgement but only with truth It works in mystery it works in wonderment It can work a miracle of love in You in You God’s Word in You"Healing Word": Jeremiah 17:14 speaks truth into any sickened soul, spirit or body. Sing this to the Great Physician. Sing this to the Creator of your mortal frame. Sing this to your own hurting self. Sing it to your doubts. Be released. My Burden Is Light
Let me help you with all of my might My yoke is easy and my burden is light I’ll take you away from the anger and fight My yoke is easy and my burden is light Let me walk with you on a path that’s right My yoke is easy and my burden is light Let me cure you from the blindness of night My yoke is easy and my burden is light I’ll cleanse your concience to a snowy white My yoke is easy and my burden is light Let me be your friend without slander or slight My yoke is easy and my burden is light No, I will never leave you You can cast all your cares upon me Lo, I will never deceive you try me prove me follow me You’ll find you can count on me count on me count on me For I will never ever leave you believe and see you can live with me eternally Let me cool the wounds from tongues which bite My yoke is easy and my burden is light I’ll treat none of your troubles as simple or trite My yoke is easy and my burden is light Let me lift you up from any problem or plight My yoke is easy and my burden is light No, I will never leave you You can cast all your cares upon me Lo, I will never deceive you try me prove me follow me You’ll find you can count on me count on me count on me For I will never ever leave you believe and see you can live with me eternally"My Burden is Light": Though it wasn't planned I see an ebb & flow in the journey these tracks take the listener through, if you listen from song 1 through 10. The album starts with a somewhat biographical, scholarly and objective tone but even before that song ends, any doubting Thomas left within the protagonist cries out "my Lord and my God". Back and forth the songs dip into flesh vs. spirit and spirit vs. flesh though with the Holy Spirit clarifying the picture everytime. Here on "Burden" the calming Savior lays any remaining turbulence to rest by offering not just hope, faith, or charity.... but Himself. My Burden is Light © Jersey Scholes Music 2/21/90 lyric/music: George Scholes Robson IV composition and arrangement: George Scholes Robson IV recorded by: God’SquareMile Matthew 11:28-30
Living Stones
You have given us light You are my God and I will praise You You bestow gladness joy and honor upon these living stones For the stones would cry out if all others went silent that Jesus is Lord God sent from the Highest if only we had known, but it was hidden from our eyes to proclaim the praises of this King of paradise who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light Chorus Blessed is this Jesus who comes bearing the name of the Lord of lords and of the King of kings Blessed is this Jesus who was and is the same and who will again be Ruler this Creator of all things You have healed our bodies though we exchanged Your truth for a lie Yet You bestow grace and mercy upon these living stones Refrain For the stones would cry out if all others went silent that Jesus is Lord God sent from the Highest if only we confess, though somewhat hidden from our eyes proclaiming praises of this Master of paradise who calls us out of darkness and to the world be lights Chorus We had seen His mighty works We had shouted praise but the palms of glory withered fast and death came within days His words are faithful and true Only by the grace of God and in nothing we can do are we able to come to the throne of He who was pierced through Sacrificed for me Sacrificed for you The Lamb is faithful and true His Word is faithful and true this Cornerstone of living stones calls out now to you... Refrain Chorus Chorus"Living Stones": Similar to the "Easter" songs, this selection was written for Palm Sunday to supply some historical narrative surrounding a week that began with loud "Hosannas" and ended just a few days later with cries of "Crucify Him!"Living Stones © Jersey Scholes Music 4/4/93 lyric/music: George Scholes Robson IV composition and arrangement: George Scholes Robson IV recorded by: God’SquareMile
Raised to be Razed to be Raised
1) Raised in this Methodist town an electric cross...beacon to the sea canvassing religion one square mile o’ ground spoke only a little to me of an eternity 2) Raised in a Christianized home or left to wander through life aimlessly doesn’t matter ‘cause there comes a time alone when it’s only we and He before eternity leader dying to ourselves dying to the world dying to the pride of a stubborn flag unfurled Chorus raised to be razed to be raised He is raised up from the dead We are razed and broken down to be raised up in His glory and someday wear a crown We are razed and weak and helpless the Lamb was raised from buried ground to one day raise us also when we hear that trumpet sound bridge be not afraid be not afraid be not afraid be not afraid if risen with our Lord we seek those things above by only Christ afforded by only Christ, true love be not afraid be not afraid Jesus returning soon be not afraid be not afraid so leave behind the earthly tune be not afraid be not afraid set your minds on heavenly fortune 3) Razed and made to discover all that we are not and never will be for our lives, hidden with Christ and no other are raised as new gems in glory for all eternity leader Chorus Chorus someday wear a crown casting it all down once lost.....now found Jesus raised ....we are razed....to be raised"Raised to be Razed to be Raised": Written for yet another sunrise at Ocean Pathway & Ocean Avenue. "Raised in this Methodist town an electric cross...beacon to the sea canvassing religion one square mile o’ ground spoke only a little to me of an eternity" No offense intended toward the geographic "God's Square Mile of Heath and Happiness"; but just because all the accoutrements of religion and orthodoxy are present, it doesn't always guarantee that the Spirit of the Lord is present. Only God can do that. Though it's only with 20/20 hindsight, this is one of those lyrics that remind me that only our Creator is "stronger than the storm". But because of that, when the next gale and tempest comes around, we can be comforted by the words of the Savior and Sustainer who calmed the disciples in a Galilean boat with... "Be not afraid".Raised to be Razed to be Raised ©1998 Overdue Music & JerseyScholes Publishing 1998 lyric: gsrobson 4/3/98 3pm music: ahbrown/rjdavis/gsrobson/grswindell 4/3/98 3pm
Lord Reign In Me
1) Over all the earth You reign on high Every mountain stream, every sunset sky But my one request, Lord my only aim Is that You reign in me again Chorus Lord reign in me, reign in Your power Over all my dreams, in my darkest hour You are the Lord of all I am So won’t You reign in me again 2) Over every thought, over every word May my life reflect the beauty of my Lord You mean more to me than any earthly thing So won’t you reign in me again Chorus 1) Chorus…"Lord Reign in Me/Reign": We would never presume to speak to the original intent or content of these two great songs. The first one from Brenton Brown (who recently visited God's Square Mile [the town, not the band] and the second from Joe Sabolick from the Calvary Chapel side of things. [Calvary ministered to many from a base in Ocean Grove, after Hurricane Sandy last year]. In any case, these were simply two of our favorite songs, which I think represent our live-worship service sound to a fair degree. All apologies to Joe and Brenton, regarding our "treatment" and changes in arrangement.Lord Reign In Me © Vineyard Songs 1998 Lyric & music: Brenton Brown
